Management

The global management of the project is organized in different Working Groups and Work Packages that include international experts with deep competences in order to render the work within the project efficient and productive.

The general management structure is described in the organisation chart displayed below.

Organisation chart of the management team. WP1 (Management) is not represented here since it encompasses the full diagram. SC stands for Steering Committee, PC for Project Co-ordinator, DC for Deputy Co-ordinator, PM for Project Manager, SAL for Support Actions Leader, CAL for Co-ordination Actions Leader, STL for Scientific and Technical Leader, ANL for Administrative Network Leader, CSWG for Co-ordinator of the scientific working groups, DPM for Deputy Project Manager and PaC for Participant Council.

Project Coordinator

Gerard Mourou, CNRS

Deputy Coordinator

Georg Korn, MPQ

Project Manager

Jean-Paul Chambaret, CNRS

Deputy Project Manager

Karoly Osvay, CNRS and U.Szeged

Support Actions

Leader (SAL): Dimitris Charalambidis, FORTH
The support actions work packages are intended to define and solve all issues related to legal, finance, governance, strategy and safety matters related to ELI.

Scientific and Technical Activities

Leader (STL): John Collier, STFC
These activities aim to work out any scientific or technical issue that has to be solved during the Preparatory Phase in order to progress towards the final, detailed description of the ELI facility that is needed to launch its construction.

Coordination Actions

Leader (CAL): Patrizio Antici, CNRS and INFN
These activities deal with all matters related to communication, including trans-national and international networking e.g. dissemination/advertisement activities at national, European or international levels. This also includes the organization of national, European and international workshops, schools and conferences so as to publicize ELI and to enlarge the user community.

The Administrative Network (AN) will facilitate effective communication and co-operation between those responsible for administration at partner level, enabling the management of the project to be carried out more efficiently and for best practice to be discussed and disseminated. It consists of one representative of the administration of each beneficiary.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee (SC) is made up of one representative per Funding Agency and of the Project Leader ex-officio. The SC is in charge of undertaking a comprehensive, annual review of the financial, administrative and political aspects of the project in order to identify and settle any difficulty that might arise from the execution of the project. It also anticipates any difficulty that might arise during the transition phase between the completion of the ELI Preparatory Phase and the implementation phase of the Extreme Light Infrastructure.

Executive Board

The Executive Board is the supervisory body for the execution of the project. It is chaired by the PC or the Deputy Co-ordinator and gathers together the Support Actions Leader (SAL), the Co-ordination Actions Leader (CAL), the Scientific and Technical Leader (STL), the project manager (PM), the Administrative Network leader (ANL) and the Co-ordinator of the Scientific Working groups (CSWG).

Participant Council

The Participant Council (PaC) is made up of one representative per beneficiary. The Project co-ordinator or the Deputy Co-ordinator chairs the PaC. The PaC will overview the scientific/technical, co-ordination and support activities of the consortium.
